Stephen Robinson resigns as director of Motherwell |  Football News


Stephen Robinson has resigned as manager of Motherwell after Wednesday’s loss to Kilmarnock extended their winless streak to nine games.

Robinson met with Motherwell’s board after the game and declared his desire to leave after almost four years at the helm.

Keith Lasley will take charge of the first team on an interim basis.

Robinson said in a statement: “I would like to thank everyone at Motherwell FC for their support throughout my time here, both as a manager and as an assistant.

“We qualified for Europe, reached two cup finals and got third place, and developed some wonderful players in my day.

“We have paid off the club’s external debt through player sales, cup races and league positions. The club has many strengths going forward, and I’m sure there will be a great end to the season. with the brilliant coaching staff currently there.

“My goal has always been to leave the club in a healthier position. I believe the staff and I have done it.

“I now think the time has come for someone new to take the club forward because I feel like I’ve pushed them as far as possible.

“I want to express my thanks to Jim McMahon, Alan Burrows and the rest of the board, as well as the fans for their loyalty and support to my family and me throughout.

“I will take a short break before looking into new challenges. But my family and I will forever be Motherwell fans. I wish the staff, supporters and the club as a whole every success in the future.”
