Stephen Colbert spots Trump’s insult that hit Mike Pence where it hurts

Stephen Colbert spotted an insult that Donald Trump allegedly directed at Mike Pence that must have been particularly harsh on his vice president, who until then was known for his unwavering loyalty.

Trump leaned heavily on Pence in an attempt to block certification of Electoral College results, but Pence said he couldn’t.

“You don’t understand, Mike. You can do it. I don’t want to be your friend anymore if you don’t do this, ”he said, according to“ Peril, ”the next book by Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Robert Costa.

“It must have been hard to hear,” Colbert said. “But again, the next day at the Capitol Riot, Mike Pence found some new friends to hang out with.”

Pence, along with the rest of Congress, was evacuated in the middle of the election certification process on Jan.6 when pro-Trump insurgents attacked the U.S. Capitol.

Certification then resumed and, under Pence’s presidency, confirmed that Joe Biden had won the 2020 election.

Colbert also discusses other revelations from the new book in his Tuesday night monologue:
