Stephen Colbert can’t get enough of the latest revelations about Donald Trump as another book on the ex-president hits the shelves.
The “Late Show” host said Man of confidence by Maggie Haberman of The New York Times reported that Trump nearly fired his daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner via Twitter.
“That would be a horrible way to find out they lost their jobs because…” Colbert struggled to understand what they did. “Purse blond face?” Haunted scarecrow? Towel racks for him and her? I don’t know what they did.
Trump’s chief of staff, John Kelly, told Trump he should fire them in person.
“In the end, the ex-president did what he had done all his life: he avoided his children,” Colbert said.
It’s not just the family members Trump has had issues with in the White House.
“Haberman also reports that because of the ex-president’s tendency to simply repeat what he had just heard, his aides began calling him a ‘sophisticated parrot,'” Colbert said, then offered his own variant of the nickname:
