Stephen Colbert names the ‘dumbest person to ever serve in the United States Senate’

Stephen Colbert awarded a US lawmaker a scathing new honor on Wednesday.

“Most historians agree: Ron Johnson is the dumbest person to ever serve in the United States Senate,” Colbert said on “The Late Show.”

Newly leaked text messages showed the Wisconsin Republican’s chief of staff attempted to arrange a meeting in which Johnson would hand-deliver a list of fake voters to then-Vice President Mike Pence.

Pence’s office refused.

This week, Johnson claimed ‘a staff intern’ wanted an envelope delivered to the vice president and his office tried to arrange it, but he didn’t know who sent it or what he was from. it was, according to the Washington Post.

Colbert was incredulous:

“So he has no idea where it came from, no idea who gave it to them, no idea what it is, but he’s looking forward to hand-delivering it to the second-in-command. He would have Could have been anything in that envelope, he doesn’t care: fake voters, angry bees, nude photos of Mary Todd Lincoln. It doesn’t matter to Ron! It’s just a delivery man.

Colbert also said that this situation answered a question he had always wondered about.

“You know those announcements at the airport where they say, ‘Do not carry a package on the flight for someone you don’t know’? I always wondered who these ads were for,” he said. “Turns out it’s Ron Johnson.”
