Stephen Colbert has found disturbing details in the documents that former President Donald Trump tried to keep out of the committee investigating the January 6 assault on the US Capitol.

One item was a proposed executive order that would have authorized the US military to seize voting machines.

“The only thing that would stand between us and an authoritarian takeover would have been elderly poll workers,” Colbert said, then gave the impression of poll workers trying to block Trump’s henchmen.

The “Late Show” host then made a joke about MyPillow boss and conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell, but had to pause for a moment.

“It’s a true story,” Colbert said in disbelief. “Does everyone here understand that [Trump] was going to militarize the election and take the votes?

The document also claimed that Trump had the authority to do so based on Presidential National Security Memoranda 13 and 21. Politico reported that the very existence of the second dossier had “not previously been reported.”

“It’s quite a way to learn this secret,” Colbert said. “It’s like getting a card from your parents: ‘Happy 10th birthday. Love, mom, dad and real dad.
