The legendary Rey Mysterio has been revealed as the cover star of WWE 2K22.

The 47-year-old is one of the best top professional wrestlers ever, even in the presumed winter of his career he took another big step.

“Representing the culture of lucha libre as a WWE 2K22 Cover Superstar is a very proud moment for me,” Mysterio said via a press release.

“I look forward to sharing the stories behind the great moments of my career with a community of dedicated gamers and connecting with WWE fans in a whole new way as they play through my 2K Showcase.”

WWE 2K22 is 2K Sports’ first real wrestling effort since the terrible reception of WWE2K20. The company took a break last year to make sure it could put together a worthy installment this time around.

This time around, they made a point of listening to the fans. Released on March 11, 2K22 has a completely redesigned game engine, a variety of game modes that include not only the return of the much-desired MyGM mode, but a 2K showcase of Rey Mysterio’s career in WWE and beyond.

“I think every moment, every accolade that I’ve received throughout my career has had a different meaning,” Mysterio said at a press event to reveal WWE 2K22 coverage.

“Just being able to share the ring with my son [for the first time] was a very special moment. And not only that, but we became Tag Team Champions – the first father and son in WWE history. It was an incredible race. I enjoyed every moment that I spent in the ring, you know, from my debut, in 1989, until now, 2022.

New game modes include MyGM and MyFACTION.

In MyGM, players step into the role of a WWE General Manager and make the decisions to build the biggest brand in the WWE Universe. You basically have to prove that you can do a better job than Vince McMahon himself and run the business and its storylines.

With MyFACTION mode, a first for the franchise, players can assemble and manage the faction of their dreams. There are weekly events that reflect this, and you can build any stable you want.

Now that Mysterio can take another step in his incredible career, he has one more that he would like to achieve.

“Now that things have just blossomed and come out, I’m telling the world – I want to have a WrestleMania moment with my son before I end up hanging up the mask.”
