Hungary shocked France by holding the world champions to a 1-1 draw at Euro 2020.

Attila Fiola gave the minnows a shock lead in first-half stoppage time, but his goal was cancelled out by Griezmann after the break.

Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema spurned multiple chances throughout the contest as Hungary held on for a deserved draw.

The match was played in front of a full capacity stadium holding 67,000 fans at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.

The result means Portugal can go top of Group F if they avoid defeat to Germany in Saturday’s 5pm kick-off.

Mbappe sent the first warning sign to the Hungary defence when he headed a Lucas Digne cross wide.

Benzema was then wasteful when he failed to hit the target from close-range following good build-up play from France.

Mbappe then tried to do it all on his way by jinxing his way into the box and firing just wide.

France’s missed chances came back to bite them as Fiola’s one-two with Roland Sallai resulted in the wing-back firing past Hugo Lloris in the second minute of first-half stoppage time.

It was the first goal Didier Deschamps’ men had conceded in over 500 minutes of football.

talkSPORT’s Matt Holland hailed the ‘incredible scenes’ inside the Puskas Arena.

He said: “Absolutely incredible scenes inside the stadium, the Hungarian fans have gone absolutely wild.

“I’ve got goosebumps, it’s incredible. It’s bedlam. Honestly, the place has erupted. You can’t even hear yourself think. It’s awesome.

“It just highlights how much we have missed supporters over this last 18 months.

“A full stadium, the atmosphere is absolutely rocking. It’s just incredible.”

Ousmane Dembele was brought on for Adrien Rabiot at the break and almost made an immediate impact by hitting the woodwork.

Mbappe and Paul Pogba were thwarted by Hungary goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, before France got back on level terms in the 66th minute.

Mbappe’s cross was not dealt with by Willi Orba, whose touch fell into the path of Griezmann as the Barcelona forward scored his 38th goal for France.

Hungary did not crumble, though, with Raphael Varane heading wide late on to confirm a superb point.
