Spanish Prime Minister Sánchez says he has COVID and cancels appearance

MADRID– Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said on Sunday he had tested positive for COVID-19.

The leader of Spain’s Socialist Party and the country’s coalition government said in a Twitter post that he was canceling his participation in a socialist event on Sunday marking the start of the new political season after the summer vacation.

Sánchez did not say if he felt ill or if he would cancel any other commitments next week.

“I will continue to work, taking every precaution,” he said.

Sánchez attended the United Nations General Assembly in New York last week. He returned to Spain for an official event on Friday.
