Jan Blachowicz returned to the win column this weekend when fellow lightweight Aleksandar Rakic suffered a horrific knee injury during their clash.
The 205-pound former king was the beneficiary of one of the most devastating injuries of 2022 in the third round of his main event with Rakic.
One look at the slow-motion replays and it’s clear to see exactly when Rakic pops his knee before falling to the ground in what must have been excruciating pain.
Blachowicz, who peppered his opponent with leg kicks throughout their three-round fight, will feel the injury was the result of his hard work, but it was ultimately a disappointing and inconclusive end to a good fight. .
The fight ended prematurely when Rakic stepped back and his knee buckled. He fell to the ground in pain and the referee rushed to stop the fight just over a minute after the third frame.
Before that, the fight was competitive and Rakic even managed to open a cut under his opponent’s eye with the first punch he landed.
Blachowicz was undeterred and came back with a right hand of his own which knocked the Austrian’s head down and let everyone watching know we had a real fight on our hands.
The Polish knockout artist then started targeting Rakic with leg kicks.

Blachowicz delivered several nasty calf kicks that caused immediate damage and also allowed him to go to work upstairs in his boxing suits.
A visibly composed Rakic smartly took the fight to the ground and managed to find some success from top position. After ignoring a submission attempt, the 30-year-old went to work with his ground and weight.
When the fighters got back to their feet for the third round, Blachowicz continued to land powerful leg kicks at his opponents.
As Rakic tried to get away from Blachowicz’s leg kicks, his knee seemed to give out on him and the fight was called off.
Immediately after the fight, Blachowicz expressed concern for his injured opponent before calling for a shot at the title he lost at UFC 267 in October.
Glover Teixeira will look to defend his lightweight title for the first time when he takes on Czech knockout artist Jiri Prochazka at UFC 275 in Singapore next month.
