ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The Abilene Police Department’s (APD) Operation: Slow Down initiative resulted in more than 450 traffic stops and five arrests over a two-week period.
Operation: Slow Down began on Tuesday, June 7 and ended on Tuesday, June 21. During this period, the APD said officers carried out 456 traffic stops, issued 394 citations and arrested five traffic offenders.
Between January 1 and June 23, the APD said 18 people died in 14 car crashes. This is on par with the final report on the 2021 fatal accident.
During Operation: Slow Down, APD worked with the Texas Department of Transportation in an effort to reduce the devastating trend.
