Simone Biles leads Larry Nassar victims to speak out about abuse at Senate hearing

Olympic gymnast Simone Biles collapsed when she gave moving testimony during the US Senate hearing about former US team doctor Larry Nassar, who was jailed for sexual assault.

Ms Biles told the hearing, which examines the FBI’s handling of its investigations into Nassar, that the organs of Team USA and US Gymnastics “did not both do the right thing” to prevent Nassar from l sexually abusing her and nearly 150 women, it is alleged.

She said in her opening statement: “[T]he organizations created by Congress to watch and protect me as an athlete, USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, have not done their job ”.

“I don’t want another young gymnast, Olympian or any other individual to go through the horror that I and hundreds of others have endured … as a result of Larry Nasser’s abuse.”

Her remarks preceded further testimony from Maggie Nichols, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney.

Ms. Biles ended by saying, “I blame Larry Nasser, and I also blame an entire system that allowed and perpetrated his abuses.”
