SEVERAL people have died in a terrifying crash on Interstate 90 after a pickup truck driving the wrong way crashed into a car, police say.

The van was traveling west on the freeway when it hit a car head-on.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. Sunday near Hampshire, Illinois.

The total number of deaths is unknown at this time, but one person has been airlifted to a local hospital.

All westbound lanes have been closed to the Jane Addams Turnpike.

The eastbound lanes have since been reopened.
