Seven-storey building on fire in Sydney, blaze spreads to other buildings

Twenty fire engines and more than 100 firefighters were mobilized on Thursday to “contain and extinguish” a fire in a seven-storey building near Sydney Central Station, emergency services said.
“The building is collapsing, while the blaze is beginning to spread to several nearby buildings, including residential (buildings),” firefighters from the Australian state of New South Wales said in a statement. .

At least one nearby vehicle was destroyed in the blaze, they added.
“The public is asked to avoid the area while firefighting operations continue,” the fire department said.
Footage circulating on social media shows flames rising into the sky, as high as the building itself, as well as thick smoke billowing from it.
