The Kaizer Chiefs are looking to strengthen their squad with the signing of South Africa Under-23 international Kgaogelo Sekgota.
The talented winger capitalized on his decisive PSL season in the recent 2020/21 campaign as he established himself as a key player for Swallows FC.
Sekgota, who was part of the South African Under-23 squad that recently faced his Egyptian counterparts in two friendlies, made 26 appearances for the Swallows and scored three goals.
His agent Bally Smart has just confirmed that the Glamor Boys are interested in the former Vitoria Setubal player.
“Yes, I am aware of their interest [in Sekgota]”said Smart Goal.
Sekgota was reportedly on the heads and swallows radar before the start of the 2020/21 season, but Amakhosi was unable to bring in any new players due to the club’s transfer ban by Fifa.
The 23-year-old, who was academically raised with Polokwane United FC, ended up joining Portuguese club Setubal’s Swallows in November 2020.
Sekgota had been linked with Chiefs and Swallows after impressing late Bidvest Wits in the second round of the 2019/20 campaign while on loan from Setubal.
A left-footed forward endowed with speed and the ability to dribble, Sekgota helped Wits reach the semi-finals of the 2020 Nedbank Cup where they lost to future champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Seshego-born player could head to the Chiefs, whose transfer ban ends on July 1.
The one-year deal Sekgota signed when he joined Swallows will expire at the end of this month and he will move to the Chiefs as a free agent.
Sekgota would compete with Happy Mashiane and Dumisani Zuma for a place in the starting lineup at Amakhosi, who has a new head coach in Stuart Baxter.
Prior to joining Setubal in 2018, Sekgota was on the books of FC Stumbras and he helped the team win the 2017 Lithuanian Cup after scoring twice in three appearances in the competition.
The stocky player was a teammate with Mamelodi Sundowns forward Kermit Erasmus in Setubal during the 2018/19 season.
He was also part of a Bafana Bafana youth team that finished fifth at the 2019 Cosafa Cup in Durban.
