Second U.S. case of Omicron variant found in Minnesota

The patient with the first confirmed case of the Omicron coronavirus variant in the United States is doing well, San Francisco health chief Dr.Susan Philip, told CNN.

“This first individual is doing fine,” Philip told CNN’s John Berman on Thursday, adding that there was no sign of further transmission of the virus yet.

“We’re so happy to hear this and they’ve absolutely contributed to our understanding in San Francisco, and nationally, because they’ve caught our attention, they’ve reported their symptoms, and they’ve called us to public health so that we can begin the lab process to detect the first case in the United States, ”she said.

The first confirmed case of the Omicron variant in the United States was announced on Wednesday.

Asked about any signs of transmission from the patient, Philip said they were still under investigation and wanted to inform their colleagues at the state level and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well. as the public, together as soon as possible.

“No signs yet,” said Philip, when asked to clarify if there was any sign of transmission or any additional cases related to it. “And, you know, I think it’s important, as you noted, that this is the first case detected, it’s almost certainly not the first case in the United States.”

She said it was still early days, but the measures they are taking in San Francisco, such as reinforcing people, continuing to hide indoors and screening people, are key to preventing the spread.
