There’s no denying that the hit HBO series brought New York to life, as it centered around four best friends navigating their careers, relationships, and more. But despite the escape the series provided its devoted fans, nothing could have prepared anyone for the horrific events that unfolded on September 11, 2001.
At the time of the World Trade Center attacks, Sex and the city had already filmed its fourth season. However, coincidentally, the series summed up the beauty of the Big Apple with a close-up of a souvenir snow globe depicting the Twin Towers.
Additionally, the season four finale, titled “I Heart NY,” was touching with its homage to the city. Not only did it feature a nod to Breakfast at Tiffany’s‘s starring “Moon River” at one point, but Carrie and Mr. Big celebrate the New York City classic before it moved to Napa. The next morning, Carrie reflects on the new chapter she’s about to embark on.
While the lines were written before the 9/11 attacks, Sarah Jessica Parker recorded the voiceover afterwards, adding more weight to the words of her speech.
“The seasons change,” she began. “Cities too. People come into your life and people leave. But it’s heartwarming to know that your loved ones are still in your heart. And, if you’re very lucky, a plane ride. “
