Said Benrahma and David Moyes exchange words as West Ham pay for Declan Rice’s ’50p header’ in Newcastle draw

West Ham had to pay a ’50p header’ from Declan Rice in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Saturday.

The Hammers fell even further to fourth place as Craig Dawson’s opener was canceled by Joe Willock at the London Stadium.

Willock earned Newcastle a point

In a two-headed tale, Dawson’s emphatic 32nd-minute finish was followed by a terrible Rice clearance in first-half stoppage time.

The England star inadvertently put the ball back in danger and allowed Willock to head home as a rare error from Rice ultimately cost David Moyes’ side two points.

“Rice, absolute 50p coin head!” said former West Ham striker Dean Ashton on talkSPORT. “He went to take it out of the box, he ran it backwards.

“Willock is aware of the situation, Fabianski doesn’t expect it because of that header from Rice.

“Newcastle probably deserved to be level in this game.”

And the frustration seemed to show when Hammers striker Said Benrahma had words with manager David Moyes after being substituted.

The Toons were much happier with the stitch

Moyes appeared annoyed by the speed at which Benrahma left the pitch in the second half, while the winger will no doubt be upset to be taken off for the 18th time this season – more than any Premier League player .

Newcastle, on the other hand, celebrated the point as a win as Eddie Howe’s side extended their unbeaten streak to six matches.

While West Ham may be paying the price for the lack of investment in January, the Magpies see the benefit of smart business as they slip five points clear of the relegation zone.
