SAG-AFTRA rejects Hollywood studios’ ‘last, best and final offer’

SAG-AFTRA cast members aren’t totally on board with Hollywood studios’ latest labor deal pitch.

The Screen Actors Guild-Federation of American Television and Radio Artists said there were still “several key points” it could not agree on in its negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Radio Producers. television, including artificial intelligence guidelines.

The studios presented this “last, best, final offer” over the weekend, with top executives making it clear they would not make further concessions. SAG-AFTRA spent time Sunday and Monday evaluating the deal.

It is unclear whether AMPTP will return to the table to continue negotiations or whether negotiations will officially end.

Representatives for AMPTP did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.

Hollywood actors initiated a work stoppage in mid-July following the failure of initial negotiations with studios, including Disney, Primordial, Universal, Netflix And Discovery of Warner Bros. They resumed negotiations for a short period in early October, but these were interrupted for several weeks.

Later that month, talks resumed, but so far SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP have failed to reach an agreement.

Television and film artists sought to improve wages, working conditions, health and retirement benefits, as well as establish guardrails for the use of AI in future television and cinematographic. Additionally, the union has called for more transparency from streaming services regarding viewership so that residual payments can be fair to linear television.

The 116-day strike disrupted marketing campaigns and prevented production from starting on a significant portion of Hollywood’s film and television projects.
