TOKYO (Sputnik) – Russian-American cooperation at the International Space Station (ISS) remains professional despite the Ukrainian dispute, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said in an interview with The Nikkei newspaper published on Sunday.
“This cooperation continues. It’s very professional,” Nelson said. He admitted that “the war in Ukraine changed everything on the ground. It certainly solidified Europe against Russia. But it’s not going to change cooperation on the International Space Station.”
Russia’s Roscosmos space agency said it plans to start building a Russian orbital space station by 2026. Roscosmos executive director of human spaceflight programs Sergei Krikalev said in October that the future space station Russian would involve cooperation with other space agencies.
NASA Administrator Bill Nelson had said in earlier remarks that he expected Russia to remain a partner on the ISS until 2030.
