Russia and China want to disrupt world order, NSC spokesperson says

Kirby said the United States will be watching closely to see what emerges from the much-heralded meetings between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin this week in Russia.

“They’ve increased their cooperation and their relationship, certainly lately,” Kirby said of the two superpowers.

China recently launched a 12-point plan to end the Russian-Ukrainian war. Kirby told host Mike Emanuel that the Biden administration remains skeptical of China’s intentions regarding this war.

“What we’ve said before,” Kirby said, “and we’ll say it again today, that if coming out of this meeting there’s some sort of call for a ceasefire, well, this is going to be simply unacceptable because all that is going to do, Mike, is to ratify the Russian conquest by now.

Kirby said he hoped the Chinese president would keep “lines of communication” open with President Joe Biden and also seek the Ukrainian side of the story through talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“We hope, and we’ve said this before, that President Xi will call and talk to President Zelensky because we think the Chinese need to have the Ukrainian perspective here,” Kirby said.
