Robert Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern Munich, club’s sporting director confirms, as striker reaches another landmark and Barcelona boss Xavi responds to transfer rumors

Robert Lewandowski has asked to leave Bayern Munich, the club’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed.

The 33-year-old has been linked with a summer move to Barcelona after another incredible season in front of goal.

Lewandowski ignored club comments with a goal on Saturday

He scored for the 50th time this campaign in Bayern’s final Bundesliga game at Wolfsburg – but the game was preceded by a huge reveal over the Poland international’s future.

The club have confirmed that Lewandowski wants to leave this summer after eight trophy-laden years at the Allianz Arena.

“I spoke to Lewa,” Salihamidzic told Sky Sport Germany ahead of Bayern’s game against Wolfsburg. “In the conversation, he told me that he didn’t want to accept our contract extension offer and that he would like to leave the club.

“He said he would like to do something else. But our attitude has not changed.

“Lewa has a contract until June 30, 2023. It is a fact. I am not dealing with that because our position has always been clear.

However, with Lewandowski set to reject Bayern’s offer of new terms, the German giants risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Could this be Lewandowski’s last game for Bayern?

Barcelona are believed to be interested in signing the Polish superstar and manager Xavi has admitted he won’t be put off by the striker’s age.

Xavi said: “When it comes to signing, age doesn’t concern me…we signed Dani Alves when he was 38!”

“The players take care of themselves, they are more professional. (Dani) Alves, (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic, (Luka) Modric, Cristiano (Ronaldo) or (LIonel) Messi are examples of this.
