Rioters who stormed the Capitol called Nancy Pelosi’s office to collect their belongings

Raskin told Business Insider that people were “asking if there was a lost and found item because they forgot their phone there, or they left their purse or whatever.”

Staff answering the calls turned them over to police, the lawmaker said, who then asked them for their names, addresses and other details so they could, in Raskin’s words, “work out those details.”

It may seem shocking that the people who stormed the Capitol one day would have no qualms calling the next day looking for their lost items, but Raskin said it highlights the former president’s complicity. Donald Trump in the events of January 6.

“When they were told they were breaking into and invading the Capitol, they said the president had invited them to be there,” Raskin said. “They didn’t have any sort of subtle understanding of the separation of powers. They just thought the number one person in the US government had invited them to be there, and so they had the right.

“It underscores the pivotal role that Donald Trump played in it,” Raskin added.
