The Republic of Ireland failed to deliver a result in their Euro 2024 qualifier against France, but the traveling fans made cheeky jokes throughout.

Goals from Aurélien Tchouameni and Marcus Thuram sealed victory for the double European champions at the Parc des Princes on Thursday night.

Stephen Kenny’s men gave a good image of themselves but a France squad containing stars like Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann was just too much for them.

But that didn’t dampen the mood of the Irish supporters, who mocked the French players and supporters throughout the game.

We heard them chanting the name of Lionel Messi in reference to the defeat of the Blues against Argentina in the final of the World Cup in Qatar.

Meanwhile, a fan was pictured holding an Argentina shirt with Messi’s name on the back.

It looks like France will have the last laugh, with the result leaving them top of Group B with a maximum of 15 points.

Meanwhile, Ireland’s chances of qualifying for next summer’s tournament in Germany are slim, having picked up just three points from four matches. They are fourth in the group, just ahead of the Gibraltar minnows.

The other game in the group saw second-placed Netherlands win 3-0 at home to Greece.
