ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Dad’s Ice Cream held its grand opening less than two weeks ago, opening just in time to catch an influx of locals looking to cool off with days and days of temperatures in the 100-degree range or higher.
“We’ve had an increase in guests and we’ve had more event planning, so that’s been good,” Dad’s Ice Cream General Manager Candise Davis said.
Davis estimated store traffic had doubled in the past few days, with some customers appearing to come straight from the pool for an icy treat.
“We had people pull over in bathing suits, obviously just playing in the water,” laughed Davis.
Vincent Mercado was one of many to visit the store on Monday. He and several friends wanted to beat the heat by sampling one of the newest creameries in town.
“It’s very hot and we just walked out of class,” Mercado said. “We wanted to go out and relax, have ice cream after lunch.”
Davis said store staff are ready to help customers take a break from the heat and maybe even laugh along the way.
“You don’t just make ice cream, you make smiles,” Davis said. “You create smiles for Abilene, so that’s my favorite part about it.”
You can find Dad’s Ice Cream at 1401 South 14th Street in Abilene. They are open Sunday to Thursday from noon to 9 p.m. and until 10 p.m. on weekends.
