Axel Kei became the youngest player in MLS history after signing with Real Salt Lake as a local on Friday.
Kei signed his first professional contract aged just 14 years and 15 days, surpassing an 18-year record held by Freddy Adu, who signed with DC United in 2004 aged 14 years and 168 days.

In October, Kei appeared for RSL reserve team, the Real Monarchs, in the USL at just 13 years, 8 months and 9 days old, making history as the youngest professional athlete in USL history. American team sports.
Kei’s career so far
Born in Ivory Coast, Kei grew up in Brazil where his father played professionally.
The teenager’s family moved to San Diego in 2017, where he first played for LA Galaxy’s San Diego Youth Soccer Club.

Last summer, Kei helped lead the RSL Academy Under-15 side to the inaugural MLS Next Cup championship, winning the tournament’s Golden Boot by scoring five goals in as many games.
Since then, Kei has mainly played with the club’s U17s, where he has scored six goals in six games.
He has now signed his first professional contract with RSL, committing his future to the club with a two-year deal.

“His propensity in front of goal is far beyond his years, and coupled with his elite athleticism, he projects to become a goalscoring force in our league in years to come.”
