Rams and Matthew Stafford to pay hospital bills for photographer who fell in Super Bowl parade

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife said they would pay the medical bills of a photographer who fell off a stage and injured himself during the LA’s victory parade team in the Super Bowl.

Photographer Kelly Smiley was standing in front of the couple in an apparent attempt to take their photo when she stepped back and fell from the stage, according to video footage shot by Spectrum News and provided to the ‘TODAY’ show. from NBC.

Video of the fall went viral on social media and Matthew Stafford was criticized for appearing to turn around and walk away as his wife, Kelly, rushed to the edge of the stage to check on the photographer.

“We have been in communication with Kelly Smiley since the incident yesterday, and we are sorry for what happened,” the Staffords and Rams said in a statement. “As we told Kelly, we will cover all of her hospital bills and replace her cameras. We wish her a speedy recovery.”

Smiley fractured his spine following the incident and also broke his camera gear, according to a GoFundMe page set up for the photographer.

“She is very grateful and is overwhelmed with the amount of love and support that has been shown,” organizer Tim Kothlow wrote. “Kelly is discharged from the hospital and is resting at home. We are suspending fundraising at this time until we have further updates on how to proceed.

“TODAY” could not reach Smiley for comment.

The incident happened during the Rams’ Super Bowl victory parade, which was held south of downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday.

As video of Smiley’s fall began circulating online, some people on social media criticized Stafford’s reaction.

“Rams QB Matt Stafford and his wife watch a photographer fall from a platform, Stafford’s wife reacts in horror and looks down as Stafford turns his back casually and indifferently and still walks sipping a bottle of water. #ClasslessJerk,” a person tweeted.

“Which quarterback walks away after seeing a woman fall and break her back? Asking a friend, Matt Stafford, another person tweeted.
