Putin’s lackeys lose their minds about Ukraine getting battle tanks

It didn’t take long for Russian officials to start moping and exposing global conspiracies after Germany agreed to deliver its Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine on Wednesday.

After weeks of resistance, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that, together with his allies, the country would supply 88 battle tanks to Ukraine, giving Kyiv more firepower to launch new offensives. The Biden administration was also expected to announce a deal to send 30 M1 Abrams tanks to the country.

The Russian Embassy in Berlin was one of the first to take the lead after the news broke, offering a bizarre, if not deranged, take: “Berlin’s decision signifies the unequivocal refusal of the Federal Republic of Germany to acknowledge historical responsibility to our people for the terrible and timeless crimes of Nazism,” Russian Ambassador Sergei Nechayev said in a statement.

The statement went on to say that the tanks would also end “post-war reconciliation between Russians and Germans” and “bring the conflict to a new level of confrontation”.

Kremlin spokeswoman Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of RT, joined Russian diplomats in offering wacky Nazi comparisons.

“After a flogging by Washington, Germany will send 14 tanks to Ukraine. Closer to summer, gas chamber deliveries are also expected,” Simonyan tweeted.

TV propagandist Vladimir Soloviev called Europe’s leaders “Nazi scumbags” and argued that the delivery of Leopard tanks to Ukraine made all of Germany a “legitimate” military target for Russia.

He claimed that Germany had “forgotten its historical guilt” and had to pay the price.

Sergei Aksyonov, the man in charge of the Kremlin in occupied Crimea – one of the territories the Ukrainian authorities could use the tanks to retake – posted what he said were schematics of the German Leopard 2A4 tank on Telegram.

The tank swarm is just the start of Putin’s new nightmare

“I’m sure everyone will be able to find more detailed information about the vulnerabilities of this…for themselves, and the command will provide our fighters with everything necessary to destroy the descendants of the fascist ‘Tiger’ and ‘Panther’ [tanks used in WWII]wrote Aksyonov.

Pro-Kremlin pundits unanimously bent over backwards (and broke their brains) trying to prove a worldwide Nazi conspiracy.

“Tank conspiracy. 14 Challenger tanks will be supplied by Great Britain to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. And it was also announced that Germany will supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with 14 Leopard tanks. Is that some kind of secret number they have, 14? It turns out yes. 14 is a secret fascist number,” political analyst Sergei Markov wrote, noting that 14 “is the number of words” in two slogans used decades ago by American neo-Nazi David Lane.

“So the number of Challenger and Leopard tanks is a secret message from the British and German governments: ‘We know these tanks are for the Nazis,'” Markov said.

He did not explain how his “14” theory holds up in light of several other countries sending an entirely different number of tanks.

Is 30 – the number of Abrams tanks supposedly supplied by the US – also a “secret” fascist number? The Kremlin has yet to confirm, although Vladimir Putin’s spokesman on Wednesday called the alleged US tank deal “absurd” and doomed to failure.

“It’s a really disastrous plan, and above all, it’s a clear overstatement of the potential it will give to the Ukrainian armed forces,” spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, according to Russian news agency Interfax.

The Abrams chariots, he said, “will burn like all the others”.

Despite Peskov’s bluster, some pro-Kremlin military bloggers seemed fully aware that tanks could give Ukrainian forces a new competitive edge on the battlefield.

“The ice has broken and NATO tanks are heading towards Ukraine. It seems that all the arguments about who would be the first to send them led to everyone sending them all at once,” wrote a popular pro-war Telegram channel.

Other prominent figures seemed to suggest that the decision to send in tanks just means the rest of the world isn’t scared enough of Russia.

“Russia’s impotence in the field of foreign policy must be compensated by military successes. Or the threat of military success. Or just a threat,” said state TV host Sergei Mardan.

“Why not then organize a random visit to Estonia of a squadron of Russian tanks or a missile cruiser in the Gulf of Riga? Or a random flight of Kalibr [cruise missiles] all over Poland? So we don’t even need to apologize, nobody needs our apologies. We need local horror and an understanding that Russia is inevitably near and stronger than ever.
