Putin in Mariupol: Russian leader visits occupied Ukrainian town | News Today

Russian state media reported that President Vladimir Putin made a surprise visit to Mariupol, a Ukrainian port city captured by Russian forces after reducing much of it to rubble.

In an official video, the Russian president can be seen driving a car through the streets at night and visiting various places.

It is understood Mr Putin visited the city’s Philharmonic Hall – the same building the UN warned was used to hold the trials of Ukrainian troops who resisted Russian forces for months in the huge Azovstal Steel Plant in Mariupol.
