Prince Harry pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth II on the eve of the anniversary of her death.
The former Duke of Sussex, who will turn 39 on September 15, paid tribute to his late grandmother in London on Thursday at the WellChild Awards, an annual celebration in aid of a charity for seriously ill children and professionals who help take care of them.
“As you know, I was unable to attend the awards show last year due to the death of my grandmother,” said the red-haired royal, who has supported the charity for more than a decade. a decade, to the public, according to People.
“As you probably also know, she would have been the first person to insist that I always come with you all instead of going up to her.”
He continued, “And that’s precisely why I know, exactly one year later, she’s looking down on us all tonight, happy that we’re still shining a light on such an amazing community together.”
The Queen died on September 8, 2022, aged 96.
Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, 42, were forced to cancel their attendance at last year’s awards ceremony after doctors expressed “concern” about the Queen’s health.
Harry soon flew to Scotland, where the monarch died at Balmoral Castle.

It may be the first and only public way Harry remembers his grandmother, as a rep for the couple told People: “The Duke, Duchess and their family will privately recognize and honor the Queen at the occasion of the anniversary of his death.
The Post has reached out to reps for Harry and Markle for comment.

While Harry is in the UK, Kinsey Schofield, royal insider and host of the ‘To Di For Daily’ podcast, says his brother Prince William, 41, and sister-in-law Kate Middleton, 41, “n ‘have no desire’ to reconnect with him.
“There’s a serious lack of trust and they don’t want this conversation repeated to anyone,” Schofield recently told Fox News.

“I suspect Prince William is dreading the arrival of Prince Harry,” she continued. “Especially when William and (Kate) should publicly acknowledge the anniversary of the late Queen’s passing.”
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will travel to St David’s Cathedral in South Wales on Friday to host a memorial in honor of the Queen.
Harry and Markle apparently weren’t invited to the event.
The two couples have been apart for years, especially since Harry and Markle decamped to California in 2020 and Harry released his tell-all memoir, ‘Spare’, in January.
Markle was supposed to join Harry next week at the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf, Germany, but it’s unclear if that will happen.
