“If there have been shortcomings by the national police, there will be sanctions,” said the Minister of the Interior on France Inter. Gérald Darmanin announced on Tuesday that he had seized the IGPN after receiving a letter from the family of Aurélie Langevin asking him to investigate possible malfunctions of the police.

The Minister added that his Justice colleague Éric Dupond-Moretti had also received a letter from the family. “I imagine he will do the same job”, seize the justice inspection mission, the equivalent of the IGPN, said the Minister of the Interior. “Because obviously the question of the prosecution of police or gendarmes is criminal and (requires) community work between the Interior and Justice”.

In May 2021, Aurélie Langevin, 33, mother of a 14-year-old girl, was found dead, covered with bruises, at the Douais home of her partner Karim, convicted on numerous occasions, in particular for thefts, threats and violence. He was charged with homicide.

A complaint not forwarded to the prosecution

Shortly before, the victim had filed a complaint against him for death threats, but this complaint, according to his family, had not been transmitted to the prosecution. The police had also intervened at the home a few hours before the facts.

The family is calling for an inspection mission similar to that which was carried out in the case of the feminicide in Mérignac (Gironde), last May.

Aurélie Langevin’s mother and brother are “obviously satisfied with this response from the minister”, welcomed their lawyer, Me Damien Legrand, referring to “very many dysfunctions” in this file. “A few hours before her death, the police are on the scene, find that she is the victim of violence and, instead of intervening, they leave her in the presence of the person who is attacking her”, he said. -he assures.

He did not rule out that “on reading the conclusions of the IGPN”, the family could “file a complaint for non-assistance in person in danger”.
