“She uses these vicious personal attacks to distract from the fact that she campaigned with a former member of the Ku Klux Klan,” Ossoff said. “We deserve better than this here in Georgia.”
Loeffler, who said she didn’t know who the former Klansman was when she took a photo with him and he was then removed from his event, retorted that Ossoff – who faces his fellow Senator Republican David Perdue – Lacks credibility.
“Every Georgian knows that Jon Ossoff is a pathological liar. And he’s a trust fund socialist who’s never had a job, other than through the Chinese Communist Party, ”Loeffler said, echoing Perdue’s refuted claim about Ossoff’s earnings.
Loeffler then turned his attention to his special-election rival Warnock, who was arrested in 2002 for allegedly obstructing a police investigation into allegations of child abuse at a Maryland camp he was running. . The charges were dropped, blamed on “miscommunication” and, the Baltimore Sun reported at the time, Warnock was not suspected of abuse and was subsequently found to be useful to investigators. A former camper, now 30, told the Washington Free Beacon in an article published this week that he had urine thrown at him and was forced to sleep outside at one point.
Warnock has also come under fire over a domestic dispute involving his now former wife, who in March accused him of crushing his foot with his car. Police at the time determined that her foot showed no signs of such an injury, and her lawyer told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that she wanted her privacy. On Wednesday, the Republican National Senate Committee released a television commercial calling Warnock a bogus and featuring police body camera footage of the incident where his ex-wife called Warnock a “great actor.”
Loeffler also referred to this incident when responding to Ossoff’s comments about it.
“If he wants to tell lies about the people I campaign with, I’m going to speak the truth about the people he campaigns with,” she said. “He campaigns with Raphael Warnock, who has a history with child abuse and domestic violence, who celebrated Jeremiah Wright, Karl Marx, Fidel Castro, James Cone, Louis Farrakhan. He attacked our police, our soldiers. He attacked Israel, small businesses and every Georgian. “
There is no evidence that Warnock “celebrated” Marx, Castro or Farrakhan, although Warnock wrote that “Marxist criticism has much to learn in the black church,” Castro spoke at a church in New York. York where Warnock was youth pastor in 1995, and Warnock called the Farrakhan Nation of Islam “important to the development of black theology.”
Warnock and Ossoff’s campaigns have denied being socialist, and Warnock has previously called Loeffler’s attacks on him misleading. Warnock did not clearly denounce socialism and Marxism when Loeffler asked him to do so in their one debate last month, although he said he believed “in our free enterprise system.”
