politico – House votes to overturn Trump’s veto on defense bill

The House voted Monday 322-87 to overturn President Donald Trump’s veto on the National Defense Authorization Act, delivering a rare bipartisan reprimand in his last days in office.

The Senate returns on Tuesday and, if it follows suit, it would be the first time Congress has supplanted Trump during his presidency.

Trump vetoed defense legislation last week after lawmakers failed to respond to his demand to repeal legal protections for social media companies. He also opposed plans to rename military bases in honor of Confederate military leaders and to limit troop reductions in Afghanistan and Europe.
