Police shoot and kill man near downtown Hayward Safeway, authorities confirm

HAYWARD, Calif. (KGO) — A man died after being shot by Hayward police on Wednesday evening.

The shooting happened around 9:40 p.m. in downtown Hayward on City Center Drive near Valencia Place and Safeway near Foothill Blvd.

Police say officers are fine, but have released no further information about what happened.

The shooting occurred near an office building in the neighborhood, where several windows were shattered by bullet holes. Crews are currently boarding and repairing the windows.

Police tape covers each of the entrances to the Safeway’s rear parking lot.
