Police: hostage-taking in the German city of Dresden

BERLIN– German police said a hostage situation was underway in the eastern city of Dresden following reports of gunshots being fired on Saturday morning.
Police urged people to avoid an area of the city center and ordered the Dresden Christmas market to remain closed.
Radio Dresden earlier reported that shots were fired at a building near the main station.
German tabloid Bild reported that a woman had been killed. Police could not immediately be reached to confirm either report.
