The body of a boy was found in the trunk of a bloodied and damaged car Friday morning in Mound, and two people suspected of homicide have been arrested, authorities said.
Police had stopped the car at Shoreline Drive and Bartlett Boulevard in Mound.
“Several scenes are being processed,” read a statement from Orono Police, which provides services to Mound and other nearby communities.
At a news conference Friday afternoon, Orono Police Chief Correy Farniok said the other locations were an apartment and a gas station on Three Points Boulevard.
Late Friday afternoon, the suspects were still in the custody of Orono police.
According to a police statement, police were first alerted around 7:10 a.m. by a caller who reported a car driving over a tire rim with the rear window shattered. When officers stopped the car, which was being driven by a woman, they noticed blood inside the vehicle and found the body inside the trunk.
Police have not yet released details of the circumstances of the death. They also did not identify the arrested persons or the person inside the trunk.
“The matter is still under investigation, but we believe it is a domestic matter and the victim is a young male,” a second police statement read.
