Waters made the comment before the UN Security Council during a session on the prospects for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine. Waters, known for his activism and calls for peace, came to the UN Security Council at the invitation of the Russian mission to the United Nations. Waters addressed the five permanent members of the Security Council and asked them whether their goal in Ukraine was to ensure profits for the war industry, to maintain global power or to obtain a greater share of the ” world cake”. Waters noted that wars which are not approved by the majority of the citizens of the world and which destroy the planet and people oppose conflicts precisely because they do not raise their sons and daughters to become cannon fodder. Waters called for an immediate end to hostilities, saying such a course of action is the only sensible thing to do today and adding that no more Ukrainian or Russian lives should be lost.

UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) – Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine was “illegal” but “unprovoked” and all provocateurs who helped spark the conflict must be equally condemned, the Pink Floyd singer said on Wednesday, Roger Waters.
“The invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation was illegal. I condemn it in the strongest possible terms. Moreover, the Russian invasion of Ukraine was unprovoked, so I also condemn the provocateurs in the strongest terms possible,” Waters said.

Waters addressed the five permanent members of the Security Council and asked them whether their goal in Ukraine was to ensure profits for the war industry, to maintain global power or to obtain a greater share of the ” world cake”.
“Another bigger slice of the pie means less for everyone,” he said.
