Paul Gosar Deletes Tweet Accusing Texas of Shooting ‘Illegal Transgender Left Alien’

Arizona Republican Representative Paul Gosar has been reprimanded and apparently removed a tweet blaming the Texas school shooting on a “transgender leftist illegal alien”.

On Tuesday, Mr. Gosar tweeted that 19 children and two adults killed by a gunman at Robb Elementary School in Texas had been victims of a “leftist transgender illegal alien”, according to screenshots of the message seen by HuffPost and Initiated.

The tweet, which was baseless, followed this year’s deadliest mass shooting in the United States and the 27th school shooting.

The allegations had also emerged on Tuesday on 4chan, a far-right messaging forum, where users falsely identified a trans person as the shooting suspect, as a podcaster Matt Binder revealed on Twitter.

The trans Reddit user was later forced to deny he was the Texas shooter, Mr Binder reported, after those false claims were shared beyond 4chan.

“We already know fool. He’s a trans leftist illegal alien,” Mr. Gosar reportedly wrote in the now-deleted tweet. “Apparently that’s your kind of trash.”

The Republican reportedly responded to a Twitter user who asked whether or not the Texas shooter was “the kind of trash Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar travel to talk about?”

Mr. Gosar and Ms. Greene both attended an event hosted by Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist and founder of the America First Political Action Conference, in February.

Attendees of the event cheered Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and chanted the name of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as ABC News reported at the time.

Republicans, who have targeted trans and LGBT+ people with laws across the US, have largely rejected calls from activists and US President Joe Biden for tougher afterlife gun control laws of 19 children and two adults in Uvalde, a predominantly Hispanic town.

“We don’t need more gun control. We must return to God,” Ms. Greene wrote in response to the shot.

Mr. Gosar was removed from his House committee duties last year after he shared disturbing animation showing him killing fellow Congresswoman and Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

He is a Republican and represents Arizona’s 4th congressional district.

The Independent contacted Mr. Gosar for comment.
