Authorities in Massachusetts have reportedly opened an investigation after a 53-year-old fan attended Sunday night’s game between the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins died following what witnesses say was an altercation in the stands.
Dale Mooney, a resident of Newmarket, New Hampshire, suffered an “apparent medical issue” during the fourth quarter of the game at Gillette Stadium before being rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before midnight. Boston 25 » reported, citing the Massachusetts State Police.

Mooney’s wife, Lisa, told the outlet that her husband — a longtime Patriots fan — attended the Week 2 game with friends and was approached by some. Dolphins fans while they were in their section.

“The Dolphins fan comes up and clearly punches him in the face,” said New Hampshire resident Joey Kilmartin. “(He) gets eliminated and you can immediately tell he’s not doing well.”
Neither the Massachusetts State Police nor the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office immediately responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment. No arrests were made or charges filed Monday.

The district attorney’s office said it would investigate the circumstances of Mooney’s death, according to ESPN.
The Patriots did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
