It’s not often that New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick makes NFL fans laugh, but he did just that Sunday night in the third quarter against the Miami Dolphins.
The Patriots were driving and looking for a first down. Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson rushed for a yard, but it looked like he might have had the first down. Officials on the field judged it to be small. Belichick waited a second, then he removed the challenge flag from his sock.

Belichick threw the flag to the ground — much to the delight of fans and former players who were watching the AFC East game and talking about it on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Cris Collinsworth and Mike Tirico both stepped up.
“Shaq would have been proud of that dunk,” Collinsworth said.
Tirico added: “The flag of disgusted defiance thrown by Bill.”

Belichick lost the challenge. The Patriots converted on 4th down but didn’t have the ball for too long. Mac Jones threw an interception to Xavien Howard. The eight-play, 7-yard drive yielded no points.
