Quetta is the capital of the province of Balochistan, in the vicinity of the Afghan border. The province has found a decades-very long insurgency by separatists who desire independence from Pakistan, citing what they say is the state’s monopoly and exploitation of the province’s mineral assets.

In 2015, less than Beijing’s Belt and Road trade and infrastructure plan, China turned Balochistan’s Gwadar into the deepest seaport in the environment. The coastal city is now a hub of Chinese financial commitment in Pakistan.
