Parthenopeans boss provided updates on Nigeria international ahead of clash against Purple One
Napoli Manager Gennaro Gattuso has revealed Victor Osimhen is doing better after the shoulder injury he suffered in November.
The 22-year-old has yet to appear for the Parthenopeans since the incident after he also tested positive for the coronavirus.
The attacker contracted the virus after visiting his country, where he went to celebrate the Christmas season.
Osimhen also celebrated his birthday while in Nigeria and was criticized for failing to follow the Covid-19 protocol during the celebration.
“In recent days he’s been getting better, even the doctors are giving me heartwarming news,” Gattuso told the club website.
“He has started to run well and we will assess when he can return to his best level,” he concluded.
Osimhen teamed up with the Stadio San Paolo outfit last summer to sign the club’s record after his eye-catching performances for Lille.
The center-forward immediately became a hit after joining the French side and put in 13 League 1 goals during his one-year stint with the Great Danes.
His form attracted interest from a number of clubs before moving to Napoli and scored two goals and provided one assist in nine appearances since joining the Italian club.
Osimhen hopes to hit the ground by running when he comes back from his injury issues and recovers from Covid-19.
The Stadio San Paolo outfit is currently sixth in the standings after collecting 31 points in 16 games.
The striker has remained a key member of the Nigerian national team since making his debut for the West African country in 2017.
