The latest wave of COVID-19 caused by the Omicron variant may have peaked, with the average number of daily cases falling 28% from the previous week, Canada’s top public health official has said. But hospitalizations and intensive care admissions, which lag behind infections, continue to rise.

“The number of intensive care units continues to rise sharply,” said Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer.
