A native of South River, NJ, Sicknick had returned to the Capitol Police headquarters after the attack, when he collapsed and was admitted to hospital. He died the next day.
The day after the attack, Capitol Hill police said Sicknick, who joined forces in 2008, “was injured while physically engaging with protesters.”
In a statement released on Monday, Capitol Police said they accepted the findings of the medical examiner’s office.
“It doesn’t change the fact that Officer Sicknick died in the line of duty, bravely defending Congress and the Capitol,” he said.
