NYC Subway: Teenager Dies While Riding J-Train Over Williamsburg Bridge

WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn (WABC) — A 15-year-old died on Thursday after trying to ride a subway train on a bridge in New York.

Police say the boy was climbing on a J-train that was crossing the Williamsburg Bridge when he slipped and fell onto the third rail.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A rescue train was deployed and removed around 700 passengers from the tube train, which was stopped for the investigation.

New York City Transit President Richard Davey spoke strongly about the subject of subway surfing after the incident was reported.

“Riding on subway cars is reckless, stupid and dangerous, often resulting in tragedy for the person, family and friends,” Davey said. “We implore parents to talk with their children about what may seem like play but obviously isn’t.”

The identity of the child has not been revealed.
