Two people were killed and more than 20 injured in what Norwegian security services described as an “Islamist terrorist act”.
Prosecutor Børge Enkosen told a press conference on Wednesday that the suspect’s refusal to be interviewed means “we still don’t know if he may have had any accomplices”. He added that the police had offered to question Matapour without audio or video recording, but he refused.
The suspect’s attorney, Bernt Heiberg, told The Associated Press in a text message that his client “has always been skeptical about how the police will present a possible explanation” for his alleged actions.
“So he decided not to give an explanation at this time,” Heiberg said.
Investigators are speculating on a possible motive for the shooting, although police have tried unsuccessfully to question Matapour since Saturday.
The shooter opened fire at three locations, including outside the London Pub, a popular gay bar in downtown Oslo. Police investigators said it was too early to tell if the attacker was specifically targeting the LGBTQ community.
