The 28-year-old forward teamed up with Swedish squad Elitettan ahead of the 2021 season
Ebere Orji signed for the Swedish team Elitettans Kalmar as a free agent for Linkopings for a two-year contract, Goal can exclusively report.
The Nigerian striker hopes to continue his successful professional career in the European country, after seeing his one-year contract with Linkopings during the 2020 Damallsvenskan season.
During her time under the supervision of Olof Unogard, Orji, who joined Umea in February 2020, scored six goals for the Linkoping Arena holding and was named Damallsvenskan’s Player of the Month in July.
Having left Linkopings, the 28-year-old has now teamed up with a side from Elitettan for the third time after spells at Mallbacken before helping Umea reach high-level promotion in 2019 on her second stint.
With Kalmar considering a place at Damallsvenskan, the acquisition of the Nigerian will bolster Frank Berntzen’s attack line as he tried to improve on his fourth place last season.
Before moving on to Sweden in 2017, the striker previously played for three years with hungarian side ferencvaros, where she won three titles, including noi magyar kupa twice and noi NB I once.
Internationally, she has performed for Nigeria during the U17 Women’s World Cup in 2008, at the U20 level in 2010, the senior event in 2011 and won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2010.
Orji’s move to Kalmar means only seven Nigerians will campaign for their respective clubs in the Swedish top flight next season.
Those who remain are Chinaza Uchendu and Uchenna Kanu (Linkopings), Faith Michael and Anam Imo (Pitea), Ngozi Okobi and Halimatu Ayinde (Eskilstuna United), and Evelyn Ijeh from Goteborg.
At Kalmar, Orji hopes to earn more consistent playing time under Berntzen’s tutelage when the new Elitettan season begins next year.
