Many places in Delhi and adjacent areas are fully inundated due to the downpours which started yesterday with commuters having great difficulty getting around as various roads are literally submerged.

The city of Delhi was marked on Tuesday by heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms, causing rumbling traffic, as congestion was observed in several regions.

In many places, traffic jams and detours lasting several hours were suffered by people, adding to their misfortunes.

The city is expected to attend polls of civic bodies next year, with the government led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) facing the municipal body led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Congress is the other main opposition party.

Indian Youth Congress leader Srinivas Bhadravathi Venkata shared a video on Twitter in which congestion conditions erupted along bridges and roads. He lashed out at government and municipal officials for comparing rainfall to “Niagara Falls.”

Not only Srinivasan, but many other netizens also shared videos of “heavy traffic and congestion” on social media.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for all areas of the NCR for two days – August 31 and September 1. The orange alert would be a warning for 6cm to 8cm of rain in 24 hours, with potential disruption to transportation and power.
