New Mexico to receive $ 327 million in additional federal pandemic aid

SANTA FE, NM (AP) – A lack of oversight within the New Mexico Department of Health has likely been a factor in the high rates of COVID-19 infection and death among New Mexico State Veterans’ residents Home, according to a review by legislative analysts. Members of the Legislative Finance Committee discussed the report, which was released this week, at its meeting on Wednesday.

The report noted that several independent reviews revealed a failure to follow proper infection control procedures and personal protective equipment in the nursing home despite initial directives from state health officials. In addition, a series of deficiencies have cost the facility more than $ 180,000 in federal penalties since 2015.
