Mount: The legend Fabregas remembered me at the World Cup!

The Spanish midfielder has won the Euro twice and Mount wants to emulate the player he grew up watching and then trained with.

Mason Mount admits to being smitten after meeting Cesc Fabregas in Russia on a trip to the World Cup in 2018.

The young Chelsea midfielder traveled to the tournament, along with Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Tottenham’s Ryan Sessegnon, the trio combining their trip with media and commercial activities.

Ahead of his first tournament with England, Mount spoke about meeting the former Blues midfielder ahead of a clash with Croatia on Sunday at Wembley Stadium and the impact that moment had on him at the time.

What he said?

“With this trip to Russia, I’m looking at the photos now and we all look so young,” Mount told reporters. “I remember we were walking in the [BBC] together and we did a little interview with Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, and we bumped into Cesc Fabregas and we had a little chat.

“He actually remembered my training at Chelsea and yes we know he’s an absolute legend with what he’s done in the sport.

“For us having a little chat with him, Lineker and Shearer as well, it was special to be with these people and learn a little bit from them. It was a special trip and we all enjoyed it. “

How will England use Mount?

Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate has used Mount in almost every game over the past 12 months and this trend is expected to continue in the Euro 2020 tournament.

Growing up in the Cobham Training Center blues academy, Mount has learned to perform in many positions and is set to do so for his country over the next few weeks.

“The emphasis has not always been too much on winning [as a youngster], it was mainly about learning, learning to play in difficult matches, or in different circumstances, how to change formation or play in different positions, “he added.

“It’s always something I remember, playing a lot of different roles when I was younger, and learning what it takes to play a right-wing role, or hold the midfield, or as a I have had a lot of experience in these different formations and positions, so that really helps.

“And now I can feel that I can play in different positions. I know how to adapt, and it helps when you play now.”
