“I immediately saw that it was not our cat”

They were “catlike” for each other, but when it was time to go on summer vacation, Lestat and his family used to separate, before meeting for the start of the school year. “We entrusted our cat several times to this Dinannaise boarding house, without any problem”, relates Anne-Gaëlle. Until mid-August 2020, when the cat she picks up is not the right one! “My husband went to pick him up at the pension, while I was waiting in the car. When he came back, I immediately saw that it was not ours, even if nothing looks more like a black cat than another black cat “, recognizes the owner of Lestat, who was however well identified by electronic chip. And to continue his incredible adventure: “We immediately brought this cat that we did not know, to the pension, but ours was no longer there. It had already been given, a week earlier, to the other family, that of the cat that we were given by mistake…”.

Wanted notice and croquettes

A simple exchange of pets, in a summer “cat-has-crossed” way, could have concluded this story without tail or head. But no, kitty Lestat having made the trunk eight days before. “He must have realized that it was not the right family who came to get him, he escaped in the streets of Dinan”, says Anne-Gaëlle, who then multiplies the wanted notices in the district, on social networks, at the forum of associations… “We live in Corseul, but as soon as we were alerted, we went to Dinan to find Lestat. We sometimes received crazy calls, like this magnetizer who felt the presence of our lost cat ”. Croquettes in hand, the forty-year-old and her husband harbor the hope of finding the mustachioed runaway, surveying the Dinannais pavement early in the morning, from early morning, or in the evening, between dog and wolf. “We attracted stray cats, we also managed to find two other lost cats, which we returned to their families, but ours was not found”.

After two and a half years of research, hope is waning. “During his long getaway, Lestat gained 1 kg. Maybe people fed him or he helped himself to the garbage cans? “, purrs the happy owner, relieved, after having released the claws. “We left on very bad terms with the feline pension, of course. A filing of a complaint resulted in a hearing, in September 2021, at the end of which the cost of the guarding of August 2020 had to be reimbursed to us”.
